The Corky Garden

A toddler reaches toward a curly-haired dog in a harness while an adult provides support.

Pets week is the one our children wait for. Every age group at The Corky Violet had the same theme this week, and every room sounded about the same. Dogs. Cats. A fish named Blue. Somebody's hamster.

Our Lil Lillies and Lillies

Animal sounds are the whole lesson at this age. Woof. Meow. Moo. Our teachers made the sound, our Lil Lillies made it back, and the room turned into a barn for 20 minutes at a time.

Our Buttercups

Our Buttercups sorted animals by where they live, house or farm or zoo. Our two year olds are firm about their categories. One of them will defend a horse living in a bedroom.

Our Azaleas

Pets week for our Azaleas turned into a lesson about care. A pet needs feeding, watering, and somebody who notices when it gets scared. Our Azaleas talked about the jobs they do for their animals at home, and several of them take those jobs seriously.

That connects straight to Kindness, one of our core values.

Our Two Acres Helped

Pets week landed well on our campus because our children are outside every day. Our babies get out there twice a day.

Our children already watch birds, chase butterflies, and stop to look at a bug on the sidewalk.
