The Corky Garden

A multigenerational group in matching Disney shirts and Minnie Mouse ears poses in front of a castle.

Our school carries two names. Cordelia and Viola. Corky and Violet. They are the grandmothers of our founder, Jessyca Creasy Lopez, and she gave this building their names when she opened it in August of 2022.

Corky still comes by. She walks our rooms, says hello to our children, and sits with our babies. Our children know her face. Four years in, she is part of the fabric of this place.

Grandparents Week Starts Today

Our children are working on an activity that runs all week, one that honors the grandparents in their lives. Every age group takes part, all the way down to our Lil Lillies. The finished pieces go home with our children. Our children here are still small, so the work stays simple. A child gluing something crooked for her Papa is doing exactly the right amount.

Why This Week Matters Here

Many of our families lean on grandparents. A grandmother handles the 5:30am drop off. A grandfather waits in the pickup line. Some of our children spend more waking hours with a grandparent than with anyone else in their family.

Those people belong to our community, and this week our children get to tell them so.
