The Corky Garden

At The Corky Violet, this week’s version of FrogStreet’s All About Me unit happened everywhere from circle time to our 2-acre back yard. Whether children were pointing to their own eyes and noses indoors or feeling the sun on their faces outside, teachers wove self awareness into everything.

Our youngest infants and toddlers practiced naming their own faces through songs and mirrors, while our two and three year olds explored their physical selves through movement and simple body games. The oldest children in the building took the theme further, connecting body awareness to the independence they will need as they get closer to Pre-K.

It is the kind of week that looks a little different every year but always feels familiar at Violet, teachers who have been part of this classroom since the day it opened, guiding children through the first steps of getting to know themselves.
